2020

Na Aap Productions produced an animation series called Stories in die Wind. This project was in partnership with the University of Free State (Program for Innovation in Artform Development) and National Arts Council. The project went on to screen at Wairoa Maori Film Festival in New Zealand, Africa International Film Festival in Nigeria and rural communities in South Africa.

2021

Na Aap Productions produced an animation short film called Love Thy Neighbour. The film went on to win at international film festivals. It also got selected as Semifinalists at the Rhode Island International Film Festival in America, an Academy award qualifying film festival.

2022

Na Aap Productions animation series in development called The Spirits & The Black Lioness was selected at the 7th edition of The Ouaga Film Lab and won the 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗫 𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗣𝗟𝗨𝗦 : Writing and mobility grant

2024

Carissa will have its World Premier at La Biennale in Venice in competition in the Orizzonti section of the festival in September. This is the only film from the continent to be in competition this year. Na Aap Productions is proud of this achievement and will continue to tell indigenous stories.

2024

Na Aap Productions went into production with its first feature film called Carissa. Independently produced (NA AAP Productions) with the support of the National Film & Video Foundation in February 2023. Even though this was a bold decision for us to go into production, we managed to make this film with the resources we had available and submitted it to Final Cut Venice 2023. It was the only South African feature film selected and we went on to win Best Film; the award money we received from La Biennale and other funders (Institut Francais and FIFF prizes for post-production) enabled us to finish the film. .

2025

Company founder Deidré Jantjies identified that women needed a voice to represent themselves creatively. This was a great way to start a company that stood for African writers, directors, and producers.

who we are

=========================================

about us

Na Aap Productions is an independent production company screening untold stories from Southern Africa. Stories of indigenous heritage and forgotten traditions form part of the most important dialogue that we want to generate through animation, documentaries and short and feature-length films. The company is 100% Black Female owned. In this way, we work towards empowering Africans in the industry to grow and become storytellers alongside each other
